KARACHI: Police in a targeted operation in Afghan Basti in Karachi arrested 17 foreign nationals including Uzbeks, illegally staying the city, ARY News reported on Thursday.

Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) has recently claimed responsibility of the attack on Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, in which more than 30 persons were killed.

The IMU had also published the photographs of 10 attackers involved in the incident at their website.

The law enforcement agencies have focussed their attention over the people illegally staying in Karachi. “In a targeted operation in Afghan Basti and adjoining areas 17 suspects including Uzbek nationals were arrested,” police sources said.

The arrested suspects have been transferred to undisclosed place for interrogation, sources said.

Police has registered the FIR of the airport attack against the spokesman of Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Shahidullah Shahid and the top leadership of the militants’ umbrella group.

IMU, an ally of TTP, has also claimed responsibility of the attack that has shaken the security agencies of the country.
