Police arrest eight accused in Mardan University murder

MARDAN: Following the cold-blooded murder of a student of Abdul Wali Khan University, police arrested eight suspects for their alleged involvement in the incident, ARY News reported.

Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old student, was killed while his friend was injured when his fellow students attacked them within premises of the university.

Police told media persons that the arrests were made after combing through video footage of the incident. Police also said to constitute three teams to apprehend other suspects who were reportedly on run.

The deceased was a student of Mass Communication at Wali Khan University in Mardan and was accused of running a social media page which allegedly published blasphemous content.

According to eyewitnesses’ account, the deceased and his friend were attacked by a vigilante mob on allegations of blasphemy.

Mardan’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Alam Shinwari has said that Mashaal and his friend were attacked by a mob comprises of large number of students where Mashal might had succumbed to gun-shot injuries.

Tthe university has been closed for an indefinite period after the clashes while an investigation of the incident has been underway.
