Speaking at a press conference, SSP Amir Farooqui told journos that the hitmen namely Zeeshan Haider Zaidi, Suleman, Adeel and Shah Ji were linked with a banned outfit.
He added that the suspects had planned to gun down a biryani shop owner in Surjani Town, while the hitman Zeeshan Haider Zaidi had shot two more people dead on August 16.
Police said the gang was funded from abroad to carry out such activities.
On Sep 9, Aftab Alam, a Karachi-based senior journalist, was shot dead in broad daylight in city’s North Karachi area.
His killing came as the second one within 24 hours, as on the preceding night a senior technician associated with a private news channel was killed and driver injured in firing on channel’s DSNG van.
