Police arrest seven accused of Karachi Press Club attack

The Artillery Maidan police has arrested seven accused three of them has been named Zafar Iqbal, Abdul Qadir and Irfan, police sources said. The police has registered FIR against the accused.

A protest demo organised by the students’ wing of a religious group turned violent yesterday when participants of the rally beat up journalists, set fire to a vehicle of a news channel and pelted stones at Karachi Press Club over what they described as a lack of media coverage of their protest.

The police said that dozens of charged protesters shouted slogans and pelted stones at the KPC.

The protesters had a heated argument with some cameramen for a lack of coverage of their protest. During the argument, some of them started smashing the windowpanes of a parked vehicle of a news channel, Jaag TV, and set it on fire.

The enraged protesters beat cameramen and snatched cameras some mediapersons.

The area police reached to the spot dispersed the protesters with aerial firing.
