Police arrest three more suspects in Karachi sexually abused girl case

KARACHI: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three more suspects as IG Sindh A.D. Khawaja gets a briefing over investigation into the case of a sexually abused girl, raped and tortured in the neighbourhood of Korangi earlier this week.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar and other senior police officials were also present in the meeting during which details of the latest arrests were revealed.

Meanwhile, a search operation was underway to find whereabouts of a suspect, Sajid, a rickshaw driver by profession, after a woman claimed that she last saw the girl in his three-wheeler.

Police officials have released all the suspects who were earlier taken into custody after preliminary questioning.

The young girl found in a severely tortured and unconscious state from a drain of Korangi late Thursday was identified by her maternal uncle yesterday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar also took suo moto notice of the harrowing incident and sought a report from IG Sindh A.D. Khawaja following which the IG contacted her mother for details.

According to the girl’s uncle, she went missing early on Thursday while playing and since then they had been trying to find her.

Police were also told that the victim’s family had shifted to their new house only seven days back in which they were currently residing.

Unknown men raped and then attempted to kill the girl and threw her in a drain in the Ibrahim Hyderi police limits but she survived.

With wounds on her throat and hands, she was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre which referred her to Civil Hospital Karachi where a lady doctor examined her and confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.

As per the last reports received by ARY News, the girl’s condition was out-of-danger at the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre and she was recovering fast.
