Police file charge-sheet against Sharjeel in liquor case

KARACHI: Police on Tuesday filed a charge-sheet against former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon in a case pertaining to recovery of three bottles of liquor from his hospital room.

The investigation officer of the case submitted the charge-sheet to the Judicial Magistrate South.

The PPP leader, his three servants – Shakar Din, Mushtaque Ali and Muhammad Jam -, Central Jail, Karachi assistant superintendent Naseem Ahmed and Habib Ahmed have been named as accused in the investigation report.

Memon is in jail, his servants are out on bail and the remaining two accused have been declared absconders.

According to the report, three bottles of liquor and two packs of cigarette were recovered from the PPP leader’s VIP room at Ziauddin Hospital.

His servants admitted to tampering with evidence. Shakar Din confessed that he threw the bottles into a dustbin in order to discard the evidence.

Fifteen witnesses have been listed in the charge-sheet.

On September 1, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar paid a surprise visit to the Ziauddin Hospital where he found three bottles of liquor in the room of the incarcerated PPP leader.

Subsequently, Memon was shifted to Central Jail, Karachi and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him with the Boat Basin police station.
