The clash first erupted at Akbar Chowk when police attempted to bar PAT supporters and workers from massing in the Model Town.
The Punjab government had already declared Model Town a red-zone and placed containers to obstruct movement of PAT workers and supporters from launching their agitating movement, in the build-up of Martyrs Day on August 10 at Minhaj Secretariat.
The PAT men turned rage and displaced most of the containers placed by the police. They chanted slogans against the government.
Additional contingent of police was summoned to site to rein in the PAT workers. However, the TV footages shown no neither of the protesters assaulted any police official or law enforcement personnel deployed at the site. Incidents of shoving and pushing were witnessed.
