PESHAWAR: Police on Monday claimed to have thwarted a terror plot by arresting two suspects and seizing arms and ammunition from their possession.

Police officials said they intercepted a vehicle on GT Road and seized 30-bore pistols and five thousand cartridges from the vehicle.

The suspects have been taken into custody and further interrogation with regard to their possible involvement in heinous crimes is underway, the officials added.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement officials further claimed to have arrested two proclaimed offenders during a combing operation being carried out in tribal areas adjacent to the provincial capital.

So far 95 suspects have been taken into custody during the operation and nine Kalashnikov, 9mm pistols, rifles and narcotics have been recovered from their possession, according to the security officials.

Earlier on Friday, police had arrested an alleged extortionist, who allegedly lobbed the grenade on a doctor’s house.

The accused reportedly twice attacked the doctor’s house with a hand grenade for failing to pay him the extortion money. He had sent an extortion demand of Rs200 million to the doctor, sources said.
