KARACHI: Police on Sunday fired water cannon and resorted to a baton charge to disperse Fix it campaigners to stop them from entering into the city’s Red Zone area.

The Fix it campaigners gathered outside the Karachi Press Club to protest against the provincial government over its failure to fix the problems facing the education system.

When they tried to enter into the Red Zone area, the police swung into action and fired water cannon and tear-gas shells to disperse the crowd. The police also resorted to a baton charge to prevent the protesters from heading towards the Governor House located in Karachi’s Red Zone.

There were no reports of anyone having received injuries as a result of police action.

Later, speaking to the media, Fix it founder Alamgir lamented the police action against what he said the peaceful protesters and said some of them have also been taken into custody.
