Unknown gunmen opened fire over the car of SHO Ejaz Khawaja in Clifton area of the metropolis, police sources said. Ejaz Khawaja sustained serious injuries in head and chest. He was immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The deceased police officer suffered bullet wounds in head and chest in the attack causing his death, the hospital doctors said.

A heavy contingent of police immediately reached to the crime scene after the incident.

SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi of the same police station was also shot dead near Anklesaria hospital while on his way to home, sources said.

The law enforcement agencies in Karachi fighting a complex battle in the largest city of the country against militants of various hues, gangsters and mafias operating in Sindh’s provincial capital with political patronage. They face attacks and suffer losses of life on a regular basis.

Karachi Police chief AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo in a high level department meeting in March said that Karachi police have lost 27 of its men including three Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASPs), eight head constables and 16 constables in terrorism- related incidents during the current year.
