Policeman killed in attack on Polio vaccination team in Karachi

KARACHI: A policeman was killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a Polio immunization team in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Monday, ARY News reported.

The attackers opened fire at the polio vaccination team in Union Council number six of Orangi Town killing a police ASI identified as Tabassum.

After the attack immunization drive in the area suspended.

Moreover, the immunization campaign could not be started in union councils of district Malir and district East due to unavailability of the polio vaccine, sources said.

Pakistan’s fight against the crippling disease of polio has suffered setback due to militant attacks over the vaccination teams causing several casualties of the vaccinators and security teams during the troubled polio immunization campaign of the country.
