Unknown gunmen ambushed police constable Syed Zahid Ali Jaffery near Karimabad bridge in Sharifabad police station jurisdiction, police officials said.
A spokesman of police department told the media that deceased policeman was an official of the Special Security Unit of police.
He said the deceased was member of a security team deployed at the Karachi residence of President Mamnoon Hussain. He was returning to home after his duty when the attackers killed him.
Police investigators have gathered evidence from the crime scene.
The body of the deceased policeman was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
