Policemen killings: Police round up nine suspects

KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested nine suspects said to be affiliated with a proscribed organization in connection with the murder of four policemen in a gun attack on Friday evening, ARY News reported.

Source said nine suspects were rounded up from the city’s Site area in a raid carried out by police. All the suspects belonged to a banned outfit and were being questioned with regard to their suspected involvement in the murder of four policemen.

Four policemen were killed in an armed attack near Siemens Chowrangi in SITE area on Friday evening. They were breaking fast at a hotel in the area when gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on them, leaving them critically injured. All four policemen died on their way to hospital.

One of the deceased policemen was an ASI while the other three were constables. Police had found at least 26 shell casings of 9MM from the spot.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) head DIG Amir Farooqui said the department has launched probe into the murders of the policemen following registration of an FIR against unknown killers.

He claimed killers belonged to a new terrorist group who had earlier targeted a retired army officer in the city‘s Baloch Colony.
