Political contacts to resolve Govt-PTI stand off

ISLAMABAD: Political contacts and consultations ahead of the Azadi March announced by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) have reached to a new pitch. The efforts are underway to save the country from descending into a new phase of political uncertainty.

Federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar Ali and Saad Rafique are expected to meet Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq and will likely to discuss a four-point formula he had proposed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to defuse tensions between the federal government and PTI.

The government has already signalled to agree on recounting of votes in 10 National Assembly constituencies.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), after a meeting of MQM delegation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday, has also offered the PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)  mediation to resolve the political issues.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari also playing a firefighting role to set a new political tradition in Pakistan’s democratic polity.
