Polling underway in NA-258 and PB-5 amid tight security

QUETTA: The polling for by-elections on NA-258 and PB-5 is underway on Thursday (today) amid tight security, ARY NEWS reported.

According to details, the polling is currently in progress in 23 polling stations of National Assembly seat of NA-258 (Loralai-Musakhail-Ziarat) and 75 polling stations of PB-5 (Quetta-V).

As many as 52,579 registered voters – 30,034 men and 22,545 women are exercising their right of vote.

The election process, which started from 8:00 am in the morning will continue till 5:00 pm without any break.

The district government has ensured foolproof security arrangements by deploying more than 2000 police personnel to avoid any unforeseen situation and make sure smooth run of polling process.

Keeping the law and order situation in view, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared all polling stations as “highly sensitive”.

The by-election in a national and a provincial constituency is being after the losing candidates in July 25 general elections, had challenged the results of the NA-258 and PB-5 over rigging  allegations.

Sardar Yahya Khan Nasir challenged the PB-5 results, while Sardar Dur Muhammad Nasir of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) challenged the NA-258 results.

Sardar Masood Khan Loni, an independent candidate who later joined the BAP, was earlier declared victorious from the PB-5 constituency, while BAP’s Israr Tareen was declared winner in NA-258.
