KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party leader Sharjeel Memon faced a torrent of questions from journalists this morning when he appeared in the accountability court for hearing into a corruption case.

In a brief talk with media, Memon said a police report has also been registered against him for allegedly possessing or owning liquor.

To a question about whether his party was not defending him, he said it was his personal matter, not the party’s.

The former Sindh information minister was presented before an accountability in Karachi. The hearing of the case was adjourned till September 26 owing to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor’s absence.

Memon made headlines after Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar found liquor in his hospital room of late.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on September 1 paid a surprise visit to Ziauddin Hospital where he found three bottles of liquor in the room of the incarcerated PPP leader.

As Memon alighted from the vehicle, he faced a volley of questions from media personnel present on the premises of the court.

When asked to comment on the CJP’s surprise visit to his room at a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment, he said the matter is subjudice in court so he will not talk about it.

Meanwhile, a raid conducted by ARY News’ ‘Sar-e-Aam‘ team revealed that the government laboratory, which issued a chemical examination report saying the bottles recovered from PPP leader Sharjeel Memon’s hospital room didn’t contain alcohol, doesn’t have the required apparatus or machinery to conduct such an examination.
