Power conservation: Ministry seeks closure of shops, markets by 8pm

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Water & Power has dispatched a summary to the prime ministry, seeking closure of shops and markets by 8pm in an attempt to conserve electricity, ARY News reported.

The recommendations by the ministry include closure of industries once a week in different phases. It said all shopping places and markets should be closed by 8pm.

Similarly the ministry suggested that wedding halls to operate from 8pm to 11pm. “All government offices must be bounded to refrain from switching on air conditioners before 11am.”

The power ministry said all street lights, bill board lights and other such illuminations be converted into LED lights for energy conservation.

It is said that electricity up to 1000 mega watts will be conserved if such changes are implemented.
