Power Outages: PTI workers storm another grid station in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: In another protest over power outage, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) workers took to roads on Saturday by demonstrating annoyance over extended hours of power load-shedding in the province, ARY News reported.

PTI lawmaker for provincial assembly Fazal Elahi led the protest.

Fazal along with scores of furious party workers – holding sticks in their hands –  barged into 132 kv Rehman Baba Grid Station. The party workers were heard chanting ‘Go Nawaz Go’ slogans.

In wake of recent attacks, police personnel were deployed outside the provincial grid stations but despite their presence, the protesters entered in the premises of grid station.

The protesters complained that the government was receiving taxes from the people but in return not providing the basic facilities to them.

Amid slogans chanted by the PTI workers against the government, Fazal alleged that PESCO was running its affairs on the directions of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Amir Muqam and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman.

He said that the protest will continue till unannounced load shedding ends.

Threatening the government of seizing the grid station, he said if the government would not provide electricity, they would take it by themselves.

Responding to the incident, PESCO spokesperson said that load shedding being made in areas where they are facing 70 percent losses.

It is worth mentioning here that PTI workers led by Fazal and local district leadership had stormed several grid stations in the city and forcefully switched on the the power feeders of their areas yesterday.
