PPL spuds first int’l exploration well in Iraq

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has made history by becoming the first Pakistani company to successfully spud its first international exploration well in Iraq, Radio Pakistan reported on Wednesday.

Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan, while appreciating the spudding of first international exploration well, noted that the reform agenda of the present government including in the Oil and Gas sector would yield dividends.

He termed entry of the PPL in the international energy market as a good omen.

Sarwar further said that this feat demonstrates that our nation has a rich pool of talented individuals.

He said efforts would be accelerated to further build on such achievements.

Meanwhile, the Eni led drilling for exploration of oil and gas reserves in Pakistani waters have achieved a major success, sources in the know of the matter claimed.

The offshore drilling of Kekra-I project has made key progress and the work has entered in its final phase, sources claimed.

The drilling work has reached to 5000 meters depth and nearing end to its target of 5800 meters, sources said.

Preparations being made to forward a report to the prime minister, sources further said.

Recently international energy research agency Rystad Energy in a report said that the Eni’s Kekra project for oil and gas reserves in Pakistani waters is among three highly prospective wells in the world.
