PPP senator accuses Karachi mayor of ‘lying and misleading people’
KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party has strongly criticised mayor Waseem Akhtar over his failure during the street cleaning and garbage collection campaign.
PPP leader Senator Saeed Ghani addressing a press conference on Sunday said that the mayor was lying and attempting to mislead the people.
He said that garbage collection was not the responsibility of the Karachi Municipal Corporation, but rather the District Municipal Corporation.
He stated that the main issue was not of receiving further authority, but working to fulfill the responsibilities within the powers which are presently with the mayor.
He said that the Muttahida Quami Movement has recruited thousands in the KMC. “These people receive payment from the national exchequer but instead work for the MQM,” he said.
Saeed Ghani said that Sindh government was not taking action as it would leave thousands of employees jobless. He said that the KMC does not even have adequate funds to pay salaries.
He alleged that the MQM was involved in massive land-grabbing and china-cutting and had even sold lands alongside drains in Karachi. He added that the MQM was trying to deflect responsibility over its failures by blaming the PPP.
Waseem Akhtar had on Friday blamed the government for giving a cold shoulder to Karachi. He said that garbage collection was the responsibility of the Sindh government as the chief minister receives more budget allocations.
He said that his campaign was successful based on the limited resources, and complained that he expressed no cooperation from the chief minister.
