LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday demanded a fair probe into ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s allegations that he was penalized and asked to step down from the office of premier when he pushed for a high treason case against a former military dictator.

Speaking to the media here, PPP information secretary Maula Bux Chandio said Sharif’s allegations are of dangerous nature, which warranted a fair probe to ascertain the truth.

He asked the former premier to explain why he allowed former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to fly out of Pakistan.

The PPP leader said Mr.Sharif was saying  all this because he feared conviction at the hands of the accountability court hearing graft cases against him.

Earlier today, the PML-N supreme leader recorded his statement before the court, saying after launching sedition proceedings against Musharraf, he was asked by an intelligence officer to resign from the office of Prime Minister or go for an extended leave.

“The purpose of the message was to question how dare I initiate an inquiry against Musharraf,” Nawaz said

He said he was asked to make the parliament endorse the second martial law by Musharraf. “The message was conveyed to me by Asif Ali Zardari. However, I refused to do so. This is the gist of my actual crime”, he added.
