KARACHI: As the crackdown on the activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf intensified, the Pakistan People’s Party has called on the government to reconsider its policies and not to suppress peaceful protests.

PPP leader Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, while addressing a press conference, condemned the actions and said that the government should not use force on the peaceful protests of any party.

He expressed concern on the arrests of PTI workers in Islamabad and other parts of the country, and said that it will worsen the situation, and the entire country will be affected due to the way the government has handled the situation.

He decried the dual standards of the government and said that it claimed that their hands were clean, but still continued to crackdown on peaceful protests.

He said that even though they differed with the PTI over the lockdown on Islamabad, they still oppose the attempt to restrain the PTI from hosting a youth convention in Lahore. He called on the government to revisit their policies.
