PPP’s Firdous Ashiq Awan joins PTI
ISLAMABAD: Former Information minister and Pakistan People’s Party leader Firdous Ashiq Awan has announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Ms. Awan meet PTI chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday in the resort town of Nathiagali and announced support for the party. PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen was also present.
She expressed confidence in the leadership of Imran Khan and the manifesto of the PTI. She said that Imran Khan is source of hope for the nation. She vowed to dedicate herself and uphold the flag of the party.
Imran Khan welcomed her into the party and said that it will strengthen the PTI in Punjab. He said that decision needs to be taken without considering personal benefits for the sake and benefit of the nation.
Earlier this month, she meet PTI leader from Sialkot Usman Dar and announced unconditional support for joining the party.
Ms. Awan was appointed Minister for Information and Broadcasting between 2011-2012 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani. She has also been Minister for National Regulations and Services, and Population Welfare.
She was elected member of parliament from NA-111 Sialkot in 2002 on a PML-Q ticket, and later in 2008 on a PPP ticket. However, she was not victorious in the 2013 general elections.
She is the second prominent personality from Sialkot to join PTI. Earlier this month, Chaudhry Akhlaq, a close aide of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif who was associated with PML- N for over twenty-five years, also joined the party.
