The preparations for LG polls in cantonment boards have been finalized. The electoral material will soon be forwarded to presiding officers, said the ECP
According to the ECP schedule, local government polls in areas falling in the jurisdiction of 43 boards will be held after a gap of 26 years.
The ECP has written an application to the Interior Ministry and Ministry of Defence to declare holiday on April 25.
It is learnt that army will be deployed for the polls in Malir and Clifton cantonment boards of Karachi, while Rangers will perform security duties in Pano Aqil, Faisal Cant, Manoora and Korangi Creek areas.
Karachi will witness cantonment board LG polls after a long gap of 17 years. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan People’s Party and Jamaat-e-Islami will contest the LG polls in the metropolis.
Army has been ordered to remain on standby for cantonment board LG polls in Abbottabad. According to officials, police will provide security at polling stations in Khyber Pakhtonkhwa.
