President Arif Alvi stresses for paradigm shift in health sector

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday stressed for a paradigm shift in the health sector with major focus on prevention of diseases.

Addressing the opening ceremony of first annual Health Research Conference in Islamabad, the president said that focus on the prevention side will help cut down the amount spent on the treatment of diseases.

The president called for launching a campaign for creating awareness amongst the masses about different diseases and their prevention.

He also stressed for promoting research in the field of medicine saying it is important to bring overall improvement in the health sector and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, adding that the media should allocate time for broadcasting public health messages.

Minister for National Health Services regulations and Coordination, Aamer Mehmood Kiani, on his turn, expressed his gratitude to president for patronizing the ministry of health and research in the country.

Kiani added that unfortunately in the last 70 years health has not been given the attention it deserves.

“There is a dire need to enhance the allocation of the health sector if we are to provide access to quality health care to all people,” said the minister.

At least 250 original research studies will be shared in the two-day Health Research Conference.
