Indonesian president accorded warm welcome at PM House

ISLAMABAD: Indonesian president Joko Widodo on Saturday received a guard of honour presented by personnel of the armed forces upon his visit to Prime Minister House.

The visiting president was given warm welcome on his arrival at the PM house. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi greeted him.

On the occasion, the national anthems of both countries were played and both dignitaries warmly shook hands.

In a meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday, the visiting president said his country can play a positive role in the peace process of Afghanistan. He proposed the establishment of a committee of Indonesian, Afghan and Pakistani Ulema for this purpose.

The two heads of state also agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation to further strengthen defence and trade relations.

Both the leaders stressed that expanded trade, investment and economic cooperation should be a vital element in their relationship.

The Indonesian president is in Pakistan on a two-day visit. The head of state and his wife were received by President Mamnoon Hussain and senior government officials at the Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala, Rawalpindi on Friday.

Indonesia has been the largest Muslim country in the world. The first president and founding father of Indonesia Dr. Ahmed Rahim Soekarno had visited Pakistan on 26th June 1963.
