Prime Minister names Iqbal Zafar Jhagra as KP governor

According to details, the spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s House revealed that Nawaz Sharif had sent the advice to appoint Jhagra as governor to President Mamnoon Hussain for approval. Zafar Iqbal Jhagra is a known PML-N loyalist and one of the most prominent members of the party. He is also considered a close confidant of Nawaz Sharif and played a prominent role in organising the party when it was lacking leadership.

He belongs to the village Jhagra, a village in Peshawar. Jhagra had played an active role as a member of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) which was an alliance created against General (retired) Pervez Musharraf, who had seized power via a coup from Nawaz Sharif on 12 October 1999.

He has been elected as the secretary general of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and was elected to the Senate in 2008 for the second time. He had also served as the secretary general of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy Movement (ARDM). Iqbal Zafar Jhagra had contested elections for the Senate in 2012 but had lost.
