Over 200 prisoners set free in KP ahead of Eid

PESHAWAR: More than two hundred prisoners involved in minor crimes have been released from different jails on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.   

According to Prison Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Yahya Afridi had issued directives for the release of prisoners on humanitarian ground.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced a day earlier that Eid will be observed on Saturday in Pakistan after the Shawal moon was not sighted on Thursday evening.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met in Karachi while the zonal committees met in Peshawar, Quetta and Lahore.

Mufti Muneebur Rehman who chaired the meeting announced that the Shawal moon was not sighted and Eidul Fitr would be observed in Pakistan on Saturday.
