Priyanka Chopra visits Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH: Winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant and actress Priyanka Chopra flew Bangladesh a day ago and spent hours with Rohingya refugees in their camp.

On Monday, the global Unicef Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights, Priyanka, tweeted a picture of herself from an aircraft looking out of the window, while captioning it on her Twitter account:

“Follow my Instagram to share my experiences as I visit the Rohingya refugee camps on this Unicef field visit. Children uprooted, the world needs to care. We need to care,”

Prior to visiting Dhaka, Priyanka was in London to attend the Royal wedding of her friend Meghan Markle with Prince Harry. The actress flew directly from London to Dhaka.

According to the UN, nearly 700,000 refugees have fled cruelty in Myanmar and arrived in Cox’s Bazar since August 2017.

In November last year, an agreement was signed between Myanmar and Bangladesh to repatriate an estimated 700,000 Rohingya Muslims who fled a brutal Myanmar military campaign launched in August 2017.

Last year, Priyanka visited Jordan to meet Syrian refugee children.

Priyanka, 35, has been associated with Unicef for a decade. She was appointed as the national and global Unicef goodwill ambassador for Child Rights in 2010 and 2016 respectively. She advocates women rights and promotes causes such as environment, health and education among many others.
