Provinces urged to build small dams

KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail on Tuesday said water conservation was a matter of survival for the entire nation therefore provincial governments must also focus on building small dams.

Talking to media at Quaid’s mausoleum, the governor said construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams by federal government must also be supported by the nation in totality.

To a query, he said the ongoing federal government sponsored programmes in the province and its capital will be completed in close coordination with the provincial government.

“There is need for coordination and cooperation at every level hence provincial and local governments have to be on board in the larger interest of public well being,” said the Sindh Governor.

He emphasized that principles of unity, faith and discipline emphasized and promoted by Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah have to be implemented in its truest sense by the people from all walks of life.

Sindh Chief Minister reciprocating to the sentiments of the governor said the country belongs to all its people and no compromise can be made in the matters of collective interest.

To a query, he said that he does not thinks that the unanimously adopted 18th amendment in the constitution would be revised.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said the PPP government in Sindh strictly adheres to the principles of the father of nation and is committed to serve the people without any distinction.

“Public welfare is our top most priority as this is the vision of the father of nation as well as pioneers of the PPP led by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed and herdaughter Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” he said.
