Imran Khan not to become part of Taliban committee: PTI
LAHORE: The core committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday categorically stated that PTI chief Imran Khan cannot become a part of committee proposed by the Taliban for peace talks, ARY News reported.
The official statement of PTI has been issued on the matter.
The PTI core committee, however, expressed its complete confidence on a committee formed by the government.
PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Imran Khan is not a Taliban representative, hence he cannot become a member of their committee.
Central Information Secretary PTI Sheerin Mazari said Rustam Shah Mohmand will present the stance of her party on the issue.
Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had stated in his twitter message that Taliban should nominate their representatives from within their own ranks. The PTI core committee also seconded this assertion of Imran Khan in its meeting.
Meanwhile, the meeting of JUI-F leaders is also underway with its chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman in the chair. The meeting is deliberating upon the strategy to hold talks with the Taliban. JUI-F spokesman Jan Achakzai said his party, being in the coalition, back the government’s move of holding talks with the Taliban.
