ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has decided to appoint MPA-elect Imran Ismail as upcoming governor of Sindh province, ARY News reported.

Sources said that PTI chief Imran Khan has picked Imran Ismail for the coveted post of the governor which fell vacant following resignation of PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair Umar.

Imran Ismail was declared elected on a provincial assembly seat (PS-111) in Karachi in the recently held general elections on July 25.

Mr. Zubair resigned from the office of the governor on July 28 after the PTI, which is poised to form the next government at the centre after wining the 2018 elections, decided to change the governors in three provinces, including Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Paklhtunkhwa.

Presently, Malik Rafique Rajwana is governor of Punjab while Iqbal Zafar Jhagra is the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources say that KP governor Zafar Iqbal Jhagra has outright refused to stepping down from his office in defiance of the instructions of the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The PML-N directed Jhagra to resign, but he turned a deaf ear to the advice, after which the party began exerting pressure on him. The KP governor and the party leadership are said to be at odds over the issue.
