ISLAMABAD: In order to clear the air, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday issued an official statement, rejecting the media reports that its chief Imran Khan has married secretly for the third time.

In a statement, the party clarified that while its chief had not tied the knot with a woman, whom he regarded as a spiritual leader, in secrecy, he had expressed his desire to marry her.

“To set the record straight, Mr Khan proposed marriage to Ms Bushra Maneka, but Ms Maneka asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family, including her children,” said the statement.

“It is indeed sad to see this extremely private and sensitive matter be made the subject of an erroneous story leading to all manner of public conjecture.”

The statement further said if and when the marriage proposal is accepted by Ms Maneka, Mr Khan will make it public in a proper manner.

“It is unfortunate and regrettable that Umar Cheema of the Jhang Group chose to do a conjectural story on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s personal life, which also involved another person – a very private lady who is not in public,” the statement said.

A day earlier, Muhammad Musa Maneka, son of Bushra Bibi, also rejected such reports as speculative and false.

He said he had asked his mother to solemnize marriage with the PTI chief, but she turned down the proposal.

“It’s true that my mother is spiritual leader of Imran Khan, however as far as marriage is concerned there’s no truth in it,” he said adding that whoever had spread this news, he must be a shameless man.
