PESHAWAR: Terming the party a “snake in the grass”, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Yousafzai on Saturday strongly criticized Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) over its chief Sirajul Haq’s controversial statement regarding Senate chairman’s election, ARY News reported.

JI Ameer Sirajul Haq on Friday stirred a hornet’s nest when he claimed that PTI received orders ‘from the top’ to vote for Sadiq Sanjrani for the post of Senate chairman.

“I was disappointed at Sirajul Haq’s statement but not amazed, they (the JI) has this habit of criticizing their coalition partners after enjoying ministries for five years, their character is no different than that of a snake in the grass,” Shoukat Yousafzai said while reacting to JI Ameer’s statement.

Yousafzai also criticised Jamaat-e-Islami for what he termed “use of religious politics” to get into government.

“He (Sirajul Haq) shouldn’t forget that if he is in upper house today, it is because of PTI, we gave them (JI) ministries but today they are criticizing us,” Yousafzai told ARY News’ anchor Maria Memon.

Yousafzai also announced that PTI will make sure not to enter into coalition with JI ever again.

Talking to mediamen in Mansoora on Friday in Lahore, JI chief Sirajul Haq had said that KP chief minister Pervez Khattak told JI leadership that a Balochistan candidate has to be voted in for the post of Senate chairman.

PTI got order ‘from the top’ to vote for Sanjrani, claims JI chief

“I inquired about the name of the candidate, but Mr. Pervez Khattak feigned ignorance and said he would convey the name once he is told about it. The name has been recommended from the top,” the JI chief said.
