PTI, PMLQ stand united on reconstitution of ECP

ISLAMABAD: A consensus has been developed between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PMLQ), over the amendment of electoral rules and the reconstitution of the current Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), while PMLQ has also announced to support PTI's charter of demand – ARY News reports.

According to details, a delegation of PTI leaders, comprising of Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Jehangir Tareen met the PMLQ leadership on Wednesday. During the meeting, leaders of both the parties exchanged their views on the political scenario of the state and electoral reforms.

Talking to media on this occasion, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that both the parties have a mutual consensus over rigging of elections. He added that both the winners and losers are leveling allegations of usage of unfair means in the last general elections.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PPP, PTI and PMLQ have demanded for dissolution of the ECP and the current commission should now resign itself on moral grounds.

He told that a committee has been formed comprising of Kamil Ali Agha, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Shafqat Mehmood and Arif Alvi, for reviewing the electoral rules and regulations.

Qureshi stated that the ECP remained unsuccessful in discharging its constitutional responsibility of holding transparent elections.

Moreover, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said that the entire ECP should have resigned, with the resignation of Fakhruddin G Ibrahim.
