PTI nominates Qasim Suri for NA Deputy Speaker

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Monday named Qasim Suri as its nominee for the post of National Assembly deputy speaker.

The announcement was made by Asad Qaiser, the nominee for the Speaker National Assembly, during a press conference in Islamabad. He said that Qasim Suri is from Balochistan and is a member of the PTI, and will run the House diligently in line with all parliamentary procedures.

Qasim Suri won from NA-265 constituency in Quetta on the PTI’s ticket securing 25,973 votes.

Speaking to reporters outside Imran Khan’s residence in Banigala, Suri thanked PTI chairman for trusting him with the responsibility and said that he was grateful for the opportunity provided to him.

He said that his nomination would help reduce the sense of deprivation felt by the people of Balochistan, and he will run the NA to the best of his ability.

“Imran is determined to removing the deprivation of the people of Balochistan. We will bring the province into the national mainstream.”

The first session of the National Assembly earlier after 329 members took oath. Outgoing NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq administered oath to the MNAs-elect in the 342-member house including prominent political leaders such as Imran Khan, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari,

Asad Qaiser had earlier submitted his nomination papers to the National Assembly secretary Tahir Hussain.  The elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly will be held on August 15.

According to the schedule issued by NA Secretariat, the nomination papers for Speaker and Deputy Speaker can be submitted in the office of Secretary National Assembly by Tuesday noon. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers before the elections.
