KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has on Wednesday agreed to work with and support Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar for the development and progress of the city.
Akhtar visited the Insaf House for the first time since taking office, and was welcome by local leaders including Imran Ismail, MPA Khurram Sherzaman and UC Chairman Firdous Shamim Naqvi.
Later, while speaking to media, said that he is visiting all parties to find a common solution to the problems the city, and to secure the rights for the municipal and local bodies.
Akhtar said that he had held a cordial meeting with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and apprised him of the problems facing the city. He said that the CM had assured him that all grievances will be addressed, and if the problems of Karachi are solved then the credit can also be given to him.
He further said that he does not want to be a leader, but rather wants to serve the people. Therefore, it was imperative that the city government is empowered with necessary rights to make the difference in the city.
Imran Ismail thanked Akhtar for the visit and said that they would support him to solve the civic problems of the city. He said that they would keep their political disagreements aside for the benefit of the city, but said that it was not indicative of any agreement and both may be opponents in the next election.
