PA adopts resolution against blasphemous content on social media

LAHORE: A resolution seeking blockade of blasphemous content and ban on social media passed in Punjab Assembly here on Tuesday.

Waqas Hassan Mokal, a member of the provincial legislature Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), tabled the resolution in the house.

The resolution urges action against offenders under article 295-C of Pakistan’s constitution.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali to track all sources involved in spreading blasphemous content on social media platforms by terming such content intolerable.

The prime minister urged the interior minister that the international organizations relating to social media should be approached for blockade of the blasphemous content on social media. He also directed for taking immediate steps to completely eradicate the condemn-able blasphemous contents on social media.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also urged for accountability of the people who are using the blasphemy law for their personal interest.
