Punjab CM inaugurates Lahore Safe City project

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Lahore Safe City project has been completed with Rs 12 billion cost to monitor the city with 8000 cameras, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the project, Shahbaz Sharif called it the largest project of its nature in South Asia, which meant to protect the city and its people.

He promised that the provincial government will run the project with great success.

He said Punjab is the first province that has launched this project, which is four times larger than Islamabad Safe City project.

He said this project will also be launched in six more cities of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.

The provincial government and a Chinese firm had signed Punjab Safe Cities Project to ensure public safety in the province.

Under the project in Lahore, 8023 latest CCTV cameras have been installed. At least 800 vehicles equipped with cameras will also be supporting the command and control centre in surveillance of the provincial metropolis against acts of terror, sabotage and organized crime.
