Punjab Chief Minister made new chief of Buzdar tribe

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has been made as new chief of ‘Buzdar’ tribe during a ceremony held at Dera Ghazi Khan’s Barthi town, a press release said on Wednesday.

CM Sardar Usman Buzdar was made new chief of his tribe during a brief dastarbandi ceremony performed by Khawaja Ghulamullah Bakhsh. The occasion was attended by tribal elders and notables of the area.

As per Baloch traditions, the tribesman will organise a main event of dastarbandi on April 28 at Barthi.

Sardar Usman Buzdar, who is currently performing his duties as the Chief Minister of Punjab, belongs to Buzdar clan, which is a Baloch tribe.

Prior to becoming Punjab CM, he had served as Nazim of Taunsa Sharif district from 2001 to 2008.

CM Buzdar received his early education from Government Boys Primary School in Barthi, Punjab and completed his intermediate-level education from a government college in Multan.

He received a degree of bachelor of laws from the Law College of Multan and completed his masters in political science from Bahauddin Zakariya University.

The politician began his journey with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in May 2018 after joining Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz prior to the 2018 general election which later merged with the ruling PTI. He was allocated PTI ticket to contest the 2018 general election from PP-286 constituency of Dera Ghazi Khan II.

Buzdar had won as a Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) by securing 26,897 votes and later Imran Khan nominated him as PTI’s candidate for the office of Chief Minister of Punjab on August 17 – 2018.

Usman Buzdar had been elected as Punjab’s Chief Minister after getting 186 votes followed by 159 votes grabbed by his opponent Hamza Shahbaz Sharif from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

He was sworn in as Chief Minister of Punjab on August 20 – 2018.
