Punjab Gov't decides to form Special Protection Unit against terrorism

LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has approved the formation of Special Protection Unit (SPU) in order to cope with terrorism activities in the province, whilst the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the system of digital monitoring is being devised to improve the law and order situation of Punjab – ARY News reports.

According to details, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting earlier today to review the law and order situation of the province, security arrangements were decided to be further tightened during the meeting.

Shahbaz Sharif while directing authorities for all the necessary measures to be taken, advised them to pay special attention to the security of sensitive buildings and places.

He said that the Punjab Government has earlier provide all the resources for insuring law and order and vowed to continue the same in future. It was said in the meeting that a system of digital monitoring is being brought to further improve the law and order situation of the province.

The meeting also decided to form a Special Protection Unit (SPU) comprising of 2000 policemen.

Moreover, the Home Secretary also briefed the meeting about the law and order situation of the province.
