Punjab govt to soon share breakthrough in Kasur tragedy: minister

LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood on Friday said the Punjab governemnt would soon share a breakthrough with the people in the Kasur tragedy, ARY News reported.

“We have arrested some suspects and God willing soon we will share a breakthrough with you,” he said while talking to media flanked by Punjab Healthcare Department Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir and Special Assistant to Chief Minister Malik Ahmad Khan in Lahore.

He said Zainab was a daughter of all of us and it was our duty to provide her justice.

“I promise the residents of Kasur to eradicate such miscreants from society,” he said.

Earlier this week, seven-year-old Zainab was kidnapped, raped, murdered and dumped near garbage heap in Kasur. The incident sparked widespread protests in the country, demanding justice for the victim.

The girl’s rape and murder sparked widespread outrage as the people from all social strata deplored the incident as horrific, demanding justice for Zainab.

Rana said he had met parents of the Kasur incident victim and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had launched investigation in full cooperation with Zainab’s father, Ameen.

He said five best investigation officers of the district had been posted in Kasur and a forensic team had been sent to Kasur for assistance of police.

The minister also thanked people from all walks of life who have decided not to play in others’ hands and maintain peace.

Rana Mashhood specially thanked traders, lawyers and Pakistan Sunni Tehreek for calling off protests to maintain law and order of the city.

He said they would go to mosques as well to ask people to help them maintain peace.

Imran Nazir said investigation into Kasur incident was underway on big scale and JIT had arrived and all the apprehensions would be addressed in the murder case.

He asked people of the locality to cooperate with the investigation team.

The provincial minister said the victim’s father had himself recognised that image in the footage was of Zainab.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister Malik Ahmad Khan said the rapist murderer was a lunatic seriel killer which was determined by forensic evidences obtained in some previous incidents and modus operandi of the incidents.

“This seriel lunatic killer’s involvemnet has been traced in several other incidents as well. We have found the clue which is helping us in identification of the killer,” he said.

He revealed that through world’s best practices in forensic lab the Punjab government had reached closer to the suspect by magnifying the image of CCTV footage.
