Punjab police pressurize cable operators to stop ARY transmission
LAHORE: Punjab police attempts to shut down transmission of ARY News across the province have been exposed.
ARY News has obtained a copy of the letter wherein all regional and city police officers have been directed to pressurize cable operators to shut ARY transmission.
Sources said the government was trying to restore GEO News transmission, which had been closed following notice of Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority against the Geo.
Geo TV has been under-fire since its accused Pakistan defence institutions without any proofs in connection to attack on journalist Hamid Mir on April 19, last month. The Geo News aired picture of DG ISI for consecutive eight hours, alleging him of his involvement in Mir's attack. Geo, so far, could not provide any proof to substantiate its allegations.
In yet another blunder, Geo Entertainment ran manqabat (religious poetry) in its morning show, hosted by Shahista Lodhi, during reenactment of Veena Malik's wedding. Airing of such a blasphemous content drew strong wrath of different segments of society.
