QUETTA: Three police personnel were killed and a passer-by injured when unknown armed assailants targeted a police checkpoint at Sariab Road of the provincial capital, ARY News reported on Sunday.
As result of the attack, one personnel died on the spot while three others including a civilian received gunshot wounds.
The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital Quetta for medical assistance where two policemen succumbed to their injuries during the treatment,
According to our reporter, the police have been tasked to prevent any untoward incident in the city during the holy month of Ramazan and several police checkpoints were established in compliance with the instructions.
The attackers on two motorcycles managed to flee from the spot after the firing incident.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that the police have been collecting the evidences from the crime scene while the search in adjacent areas is underway.
So far, no group has claimed the responsibility of the attack.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri condemned the attack, and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
Sariab road is considered to be one of the sensitive areas of provincial capital where militants have been targeting security forces in the area for almost a decade.
