KARACHI: A raid conducted by ARY News’ ‘Sar-e-Aam‘ team revealed that the government laboratory, which issued a chemical examination report saying the bottles recovered from PPP leader Sharjeel Memon’s hospital room didn’t contain alcohol, doesn’t have the required apparatus or machinery to conduct such an examination.

Sar-e-Aam team leader Iqrar-ul-Hassan conducted a raid on the government laboratory which issued the report saying the two bottles contained olive oil and honey and found out that the lab doesn’t have the required apparatus or machinery to conduct chemical examination.

“This test was conducted in food section, from where a fake report was issued, the report says ash test and moisture test was conducted to determine that the liquid was honey. Turns out the lab doesn’t have the apparatus or facilities to conduct such tests,” said Iqrar-ul-Hassan.

The ARY News anchor further revealed that not only the food section, the government-run laboratory is ill-equipped in all the other sections despite issuing reports cases related to murder, rape and other serious crimes.

Sar-e-Aam’s Friday episode will show the raid conducted by the team.

On Saturday, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had conducted a ‘raid’ on a room of Dr Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton, which was declared a sub-jail by provincial authorities, where the PPP lawmaker Sharjeel Memon was staying, and reportedly found two bottles of “liquor”.

Soon after the bottles were confiscated, the PPP leadership had insisted that the bottles did not contain alcohol but honey and olive oil.

The chemical report signed by Director of Laboratories and Chemical Examiner to the Government of Sindh Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari,  however, stated that one bottle contained honey while the other contained olive oil.
