ISLAMABAD: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on Friday (today) here to sight the moon of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, ARY News reported.
Chairman of the Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will chair the meeting.
The regional and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold meetings in different parts of the country to assist the Central Committee to reach a decision.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting will be held in the ministry’s building at 6:30pm.
The committee will make the decision after taking into consideration the account of eye-witnesses received from across the country. The meteorological department has said that there is a slim chance to spot the moon on Friday.
Ramazan in Saudi Arabia, UAE on Saturday
The holy fasting month of Ramazan is due to begin on Saturday May 27 in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, religious authorities in both countries announced.
The announcements came after religious authorities in the two Gulf Arab countries failed to sight the crescent moon on Thursday night, state media reported.
The mufti of Lebanon, Abdullatif Deryan, also announced that Saturday would be the start of Ramazan. There was no immediate announcement from other Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
