Rangers together with other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) conducted a raid in Gulistan e Johar and apprehended three persons including Babar Chughtai – former chairman of Association of Builders and Developers.
Chughtai is accused of grabbing lands in Gulistan e Johar and funding a target killer linked with a political party. He was whisked away to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
Reacting to Chughtai’s arrest, Muttahida Qaumi Movement labeled it ‘victimization’ of the party.
MQM Rabita (coordination) Committee in its statement said that Babar Chughtai was arrested for giving donation to the party.
“The arrest conveyed a message to Karachi’s traders and industrialists to sever ties with MQM, or else they will be treated in the same manner,” read the statement.
Rabita Committee also demanded immediate release of Babar Chughtai.
