Rangers claim foil terror plot to attack at Imambargah
ROHRI: Sindh Rangers on Friday claimed to have thwarted a major terror plot in Rohri city in northern Sindh after killing three alleged attackers in an encounter.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the attackers did not stop when they were intercepted at a checkpoint.
The Rangers personnel chased the attackers; an exchange of fire ensued in which all three suspects were killed, said the paramilitary force spokesperson.
The terror suspects wanted to target Bab-e-Karbala Imambargah in Rohri. Two suspects attempted to blow up their suicide vests but they were shot dead before they could blew up themselves, the Rangers spokesperson added.
The identity of slain terrorists could not be established immediately.
The paramilitary spokesperson said that an investigation was under way to determine the identities and affiliation of the suspects, adding, they appeared to be members of a banned militant outfit.
A follow-up action will be taken against the outfit once investigation is completed, the spokesperson further said.
Strict security arrangements have been made across the country, with partial suspension of cellular services, due to the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.
