Karachi: Killing of man by Rangers firing sparks protest in locality
KARACHI: A man who was killed in firing by Rangers on suspect of being a robber near Nagan Chowrangi, sparked protest by residents in the neighbourhood, ARY News reported on Friday.
Initial reports suggested that a verbal dispute in public between married couple was going on near Nagan Chowrangi when Rangers personnel allegedly misconstrued it as robbery bid and opened fire on them, thus killing a male spouse.
Rangers spokesman, however, said the man was attempting to kidnap a lady that prompted their jawan to take action. He added that an investigation was underway on the incident.
The incident caused protest in the neighbourhood and residents blocked the road for sometime against the incident. Rangers men also resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters. The deceased man was identified as Zeeshan Uddin.
Safia, wife of the victim said they were quarreling on the road when Rangers personnel opened fire on them and killed her husband.
