Rangers officer escapes suicide attack in Karachi
KARACHI: Two Rangers personnel were injured in a suicide attack at Korangi area of Karachi on Friday, ARY News reports.
The suicide attacker exploded himself as the Rangers Area Commander's vehicle was passing through Qayyumabad area of Karachi. The explosion was heard in the far flung areas.
Two personnel of the para-military force were severely injured in the attack.
Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) arrived at the spot and the surrounded the area. The road was closed for all kinds of traffic.
Superintendent Police (SP) Usman Bajwa said that it was a suicide attack and body parts of the suicide attacker were found from the crime scene.
This is the second consecutive attack on security forces in two days in Karachi. Yesterday, 13 police officers were killed in an explosion near Razzaqabad Police Training Centre along National Highway.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the attack. TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid had said that the attack on the police bus and said that it was carried out to avenge the killings of TTP militants in various cities of the country.
A surge in terror activities has been witnessed since the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided to give another chance to peace talks with Taliban militants.
It should be noted that 2013 was the deadliest year for the country.
